Treatment for Pericardial Mesothelioma

Surgery: In the case of pericardial mesothelioma, specially in the cases where mesothelioma is localized, an operation called extrapleural pneumonectomy is generally performed. This surgery involves the removal of the pleura, diaphragm, pericardium, and the whole lung on the side of the tumor. It is, thus, aimed at removing part or whole of the tumor along with a few other surrounding tissues.

Chemotherapy: In a procedure called intrapericardial chemotherapy, cancer fighting drugs may be placed directly into the pericardium.
